Welcome to Cardiff by the Sea

Cardiff, also known as Cardiff-by-the-Sea, is a charming little surf town sandwiched between Encinitas to the north and Solana Beach to the south. You’ll notice most streets are English names because the town’s founder, J. Frank Cullen, a Boston painter who became a developer. Cullen supposedly purchased land that was originally developed as farmland and sold building lots. The town was allegedly named Cardiff after the city in his wife’s native Wales.
Victor Kremer developed the area north of Birmingham now called the Composer District. The names here are a give-away – Mozart, Verdi, Chopin, Rubinstein. It is believed he may have added the By-The-Sea to the name, although most people simply refer to it as Cardiff. The area east and south of the downtown area is called the Walking District with close proximity to downtown.
Cardiff is known for the surfing and hosts many surf and entertainment events around the small town and while it’s not known for its cuisine per say, they still have the famous Chart House, Pacific Coast Grill and our favorite, Las Olas with the amazing views. Pipes for breakfast is a must here and of course the beaches here in Cardiff are easy to get to and free parking if you can grab a spot.
Cardiff-by-the-Sea offers the classic seaside town lifestyle with a strong surfing history, perfect weather, a laid-back atmosphere and small-town feel, and provides eclectic Southern California outdoor living along the ocean, but at a pretty steep price.

      Explore Oceanside

Known for its beautiful beaches and a historic wooden pier, which is the longest pier on the California Coast. For years, Oceanside was the town people drove through on their way to Carlsbad. Nobody says that anymore. Between the restaurant scene downtown, the resorts by the pier, and a wave of buyers priced out of Encinitas and Carlsbad discovering what three miles of coastline actually costs here, Oceanside has become the most interesting market in North County — and I say that as someone who works all of them.

Carlsbad is a step up from Oceanside and a step down from Encinitas, and that middle position keeps demand relentless. Roughly speaking: condos and townhomes from the $700s into the low millions, detached homes mostly from the low-$1Ms to $2M+, and coastal or view properties beyond that. I keep it broad on purpose — this market moves, and the spread between zip codes is the real story. Call me and I'll tell you what this month actually looks like.
